Saskatoon Berry Pic, Blueberry Vid

Saskatoon Berry Pic, Blueberry Vid

I’m still in Canada and am loving every second of it. The air is warm, the breeze is fresh and the days are ridiculously long. I get heady and nostalgic every time I go outside in the evenings (the early sunrise and what it’s done to my children’s sleep habits, however, makes me anything but dreamy).

On a particularly long and warm evening this week, from my parents’ home office in Steinbach, Manitoba, I was delighted to chat with Katie from Katie’s Cucina and Julie from The Little Kitchen about blueberries. Such a great time for it, partly because it’s National Blueberry Month (in the U.S.) but also because I have so many great blueberry memories from my childhood in Canada.

One specific thing that I talked about with Katie and Julie are Saskatoon Berries. I know. They’re not blueberries. Don’t lecture me. When I think about blueberries in the summer in Canada my mind naturally jumps to Saskatoon Berries. I am therefore allowed to draw that connection and talk about them as much as I want. And you have to admit, they are similar to blueberries, at least in appearance, if not in flavor, right?

My mom happened to have some frozen saskatoon berries so I showed them off during the video. You won’t believe what happened the next day. We headed out to Falcon Lake to visit my brother and his family and discovered SASKATOON BERRIES ripe and sweet on the bushes alongside his house. Sheer bliss.

I wish I’d had the berries on Tuesday night to show you. Thursday afternoon will have to do instead:

Aren’t they just too lusciously gorgeous?

Now that your mind is on berries, take a look at our blueberry chat. I promise that the recipes we talk about will make you heady and dreamy for sure!

The links to recipes mentioned in the video are all available if you head over to see our blueberry video on YouTube.

So glad you liked it, Janae. And that you like blueberries as much as we do. They’re such a delicious and versatile fruite. Breakfast AND lunch? I’m jealous!
