What To Pair With Grenache Blanc

What To Pair With Grenache Blanc

This week my local wine shop, Roget’s, is featuring a Grenache Blanc, The Hernecia Altes’ 2010 Garnacha Blanca Terra Alta, Spain.

Grenache Blanc can be a heartier white wine, perfect for sipping on a cool evening. It’s tasting notes often include hints of nutmeg or cinnamon making it a really nice pair for pork chops with braised apples and other warming fall comfort foods.

It’s June. I’m in Florida. I’m not exactly in the mood for warm comfort foods. Instead, my mood is hot and grumpy. Lightening things up with a cold crisp salad is the way to go.

A great photo for pinning!

Grenache Blanc often has some nice melon and citrus notes. I’ve also found that its high alcohol content is nicely cut by a bit of briny cheese. I therefore suggest serving Grenache Blanc with a bold salad like this one from my archives, featuring cantaloupe, feta, preserved lemon and mint.

If your local grocery store doesn’t have preserved lemons (if you live near me, don’t even bother looking!) you can easily make your own. They’re super simple but note that they take over 3 weeks. Totally worth the wait. Here’s a recipe for preserved lemons by Elise Bauer of Simply Recipes. If you desperately need to try this salad before your lemons are preserved, substitute in a rounded tablespoon of capers per person and use fresh squeezed lemon juice instead of the lemon brine.

    Hey Christie,

I have a fruit bowl full of lemons leftover from a party this weekend and capers in the fridge. I’m going to try this for lunch tomorrow!

Yay! Wish I had some right now. We just ran out. I’ve got lemons on my grocery list so I can start a new batch.
